Dancer Grades (Medal Tests) Qualifications Key Medal Tests may be taken by Anyone who is able to dance, either Amateur or Professional, These examinations are to test the quality of dance and contain no theory. The theory tests (in Professional Only section) are for teaching qualifications. We encourage teachers to take these Grade tests on top of their Theory tests as these are purely dancing ability tests and are good for any teachers. We will be placing the Syllabus list of steps here soon! Grade 1	BEGINNER level Candidate, This level is not compulsory, the candidate may skip this level if the candidate is skilled enough as this is the basic social level and the dance skill needed to pass this level is social basics only. Examined by Associate or Higher The cost to enter this exam is: R55.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R80.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing The DTA Fee includes the Certificate and Registration of that candidate on the National DTA Register. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.
Bm Grade 2	BRONZE Medal level Candidate , Examined by Associate or Higher The cost to enter this exam is: R55.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R80.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing The DTA Fee includes the Certificate and Registration of that candidate on the National DTA Register. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.
Sm Grade 3	SILVER Medal level Candidate , Examined by Associate or Higher The cost to enter this exam is: R55.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R80.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.
Gm Grade 4	GOLD Medal level Candidate . This GOLD Medal level examination may be taken by an Amateur or Professional, the amateur must however have done the previous exam to apply and the professional must be registered to apply. Examined by Licenciate or Higher The cost to enter this exam is: R65.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R90.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.
Om Grade 5	OPEN Medal level Candidate, Examined by Licenciate or Higher The cost to enter this exam is: R75.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R100.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.
Cm Grade 6	CHAMPIONSHIP Medal level Candidate. Examined by Licenciate or Higher The cost to enter this exam is: R75.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R100.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.
AD Grade 7	ADVANCED Dance level Candidate. This ADVANCED Dance level examination may be taken by an Amateur or Professional, the amateur must however have done the previous exam to apply and the professional must be registered to apply. Examined by Licenciate or Higher. The cost to enter this exam is: R75.oo for the examiner, R25 DTA Register & Cert which is R100.oo total This level is basically the same as Grade 6 (Championship) but the level of choreography and interpretation of the dances and physical skill must be higher. Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing. Should the Candidate also wish to have a medal representing the completion of that examination then the cost of such must be paid to the examiner on passing such examination.

PROFESSIONAL Registration, but not Qualified, Key
AFF	Affiliate, Affiliated and thus registered Professionals, not yet examined by DTA, which only means that the actual professional test has not been taken, but it is important to remember that just because the test has not been taken does not necessarily mean that the teacher does not have the knowledge and experience. This professional will still apply and keep Him/Herself in accordance with the Regulations of DTA, Dance Teachers' Affiliation which will ensure fair grounds for professionals and students alike. A teacher on this level, because of the lack of official verification, will not be allowed to examine and adjudicate DTA, Dance Teachers' Affiliation levels. This level suits the following people: 1. Student Teachers Studying for the Professional Exams, 2. Teachers wanting to be registered, but not interested in the examinations. 3. Professional Dancers competing in the Professional Sections, but not teaching or interested in the examinations. 4. Professional Dancers doing demonstrations for money, but not teaching or interested in the examinations. This level automatically allows 1 Voting Point in Meetings. ASC	Associate, Second Level Teaching Qualification, Examined by Licenciate or Higher This level automatically allows 3 Voting Points in Meetings The cost to enter this exam is: R145.oo for the examiner, and R55 for DTA Annual Membership fee which is R200.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing
LIC	Licentiate, Third Level Teaching Qualification Examined by Two Licenciates or one Fellow This level automatically allows 5 Voting Points in Meetings The cost to enter this exam is: R145.oo for the examiner, and R55 for DTA Annual Membership fee which is R200.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing
FEL	Fellow, Fourth Level Teaching Qualification Examined by Fellow This level automatically allows 7 Voting Points in Meetings The cost to enter this exam is: R145.oo for the examiner, and R55 for DTA Annual Membership fee which is R200.oo total Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing
M.Dan	Master's Diploma in Dance, Teaching Qualification - Qualified as a Dance Master Examined by FEL or M.Dan or M.Fel This level allows 0 Voting Points in Meetings This is a Qualification only , not a membership. Examinable Units: 1 Theory of Dance (same as Associate in TWO Styles, Latin & Ballroom) 2 Practical Dance (as Man) & (as Lady) 3 Practical Choreography, Choreograph effectively Grade 3 Steps 4 Musical Elements for Dance 5 Techniques of Teaching 6 Techniques of Grading Examination Requirements: 1 Associate in TWO Styles, Latin & Ballroom, Skips the Exam & Fee 2 Minimum of 3 Years Teaching & 3 Years Prior dancing or 6 Years Teaching 3 Must Have a Matric or N3 or National Diploma or Level 3 OBE Certificate 4 Must be English Fluent 5 Examinations 2,3,4,5,6 must be taken within Three Months of Each Other The cost to enter per exam is: R145.oo for the examiner, and R55 for DTA R200.oo total Per EXAMINATION UNIT, Total R 1200 for 6 EXAMINATION UNITs Fee is not refundable on the candidate not passing Diploma will only be issued on Successful completion of ALL 6 Units. The cost for theory book for Units 3,4,5,6 is R185.
M.Lic M.Fel	Master's Licence, Professional Qualification - Master Licentiate - Master Fellow Issued by Two Licenciates or one Fellow This level allows 7 Voting Points in Meetings There is no fee for this Licence: This licence will be issued to a Licentiate candidate when the candidate is successfully qualified in both the American and British Styles of One Dicipline, for example: - Master Licentiate (latin) Must have both Licentiates in Latin - Master Fellow (ballroom) Must have both Licentiates in Ballroom
ADJ	Adjudicator's Licence, Competition Judge Professional Qualification Issued by Two Licenciates or one Fellow This level allows 0 Voting Points in Meetings There is no fee for this Licence: This licence will be issued to an Associate, Licentiate or Fellow, after the candidate has passed a written theory examination. This license is upon invitation only and is not open to the public. The only benefit this licence allows is the candidate will be allowed to adjudicate at competitions. This licence does not allow the holder to examine for the Grade System. Thus it is possible for someone to be a Fellow and not have a licence to adjudicate. This licence does not give the holder a higher status. This licence may be cancelled or revoked at any time. The holder may be asked to write another theory examination at any time that the rules and regulations of competition change to such an extent that new study is needed. Only professionals holding this licence will be allowed to adjudicate and all adjudicators will be paid for the adjudication they do.
